The Center for Translation Studies

Pedagogies of Translation conference

Welcome

Barnard’s Center for Translation Studies is a space for the study of the modes and methodologies of translation, as well as a space for exploration of the major political, ethical, and theoretical issues in translation studies today. Translation Studies places language at the core of current debates about globalization and its impact on cultural identities.

Events and initiatives of the Center include lectures, small-scale and major conferences on various issues, and summer mini-grants for Barnard faculty members developing new courses in the area of translation studies.

The Center welcomes involvement from students and faculty in any discipline. Our conviction is that translation, both as a concept and a practice, is a common if often un-interrogated dimension of almost every area of intellectual inquiry.

The Center for Translation Studies at Barnard College is supported in part by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
